Filming Quality
Common questions with regards to smartphone filming is about the quality and if smartphones can even replace dedicated video cameras.
Smartphone cameras when used correctly can have amazingly high quality. While there will be some limitations compared to a dedicated video camera, footage that can be obtained from a smartphone is very impressive.
With the assistance of 3rd party equipment such as lights, microphones and stabilisers, smartphone footage can be further elevated.
Combined with good editing, smartphone footage can take on a full professional look and feel which is why I am confident to offer filming services as a smartphone videographer.
An example of my filming is from my March 2024 holiday to Barcelona with my wife. This was shot with a Google Pixel 6 Pro smartphone and the Hohem iSteady m6 gimbal as a stabiliser.
No other accessories were used in this filming.
My Equipment
I film using my smartphone and a variety of equipment to help me get high quality shooting angles and audio across a variety of scenarios.
A list of equipment that I use is listed below
- Google Pixel 8 Pro primary camera
- Google Pixel 6 Pro secondary camera
- Moment (T Series) external telephoto lens for Pixel 8 Pro
- Hohem iSteady M6 smart phone gimbal. A stabiliser for tracking, following and single take shots
- Neewer Motorised Dolly DL300. A motorised dolly for dolly shots and arc shots (great for promotional videos of products)
- Neewer 79 inch camera Tripod / Monopod
- Rode VideoMic NTG – highly directional shotgun microphone for high quality audio capture when in close proximity to sound source
- Rode Wireless Go II – 2 wireless lapel microphones with a single receiver. Used as a clip on microphone to get quality audio from a subject, and used to turn my Rode VideoMic NTG into a wireless microphone. This allows independent microphone and camera placements
- Rode Lavalier Go – 2 (Black and White) small clip-on microphones that pair with the Wireless Go II transmitters. These are smaller microphones that give a visible more hidden microphone so that it is not distracting when filming or photographing subjects.
- Andoer 3 meter carbon fiber boom pole. Long lightweight arm to support the Rode VideoMic NTG when used wireless
The equipment alone is not available to be hired or rented.
